A burst of distinctive robins-egg Tiffany blue has altered the
landscape on the golden retail mile of Bloor Street. The iconic American
jewelry brand, which has had a presence on the strip since installing
its first Canadian outpost on the south side in 1989, opens the doors on
its shiny new flagship today at 150 Bloor St. W.Choose from a large
selection of crystalbeadswholesal to raise awareness.
The
5,800 square foot, two-storey luxury store represents a significant
investment for Tiffany, says Wendy Eagan, the new group vice-president
of Tiffany Canada, while declining to give exact construction figures
for the publicly traded company. Toronto is an extremely important
market to us, and we are very proud of this new store. This shop is our
crown jewel in Canada.
By the end of this year, there will be
three stores in Toronto, two in Vancouver, and one each in Calgary,
Edmonton and Montreal plus boutiques in select Holt Renfrew locations.
The brand has been on the march to de-throne our national blue brand,
Birks, as the place where Canadians come to celebrate what Eagan calls
lifes most important moments, the birth of a child, the magic of an
engagement.Find the perfect cleaningsydney and you'll always find your luggage!
Anthony
Robbins, Tiffanys store design director, says the move from across the
street took two-and-a-half years to plan. Design-wise, Toronto will mark
a new look for the brand, an evolution of the style, not a rupture, he
says, of a style defined by the New York Fifth Ave. flagship where
Audrey Hepburn took her croissant behind dark glasses.
Robbins
went back to the archives an echo of the larger trend in fashion to
troll through heritage brands. Tiffany turned 175 years old last year,
and the ideas of founder Charles Lewis Tiffany and his son, Louis
Comfort Tiffany, are back in play today.
We kept to classic
planning principles, says Robbins, to give the space its order and
dignity. From the street, you can see clear through to both floors. The
glass is framed through an illuminated wheatleaf arch surrounded by
white marble and Tiffany blue. Toronto in my view is not always as
appreciated as it should be, the designer says. We have tried to include
a sense of grandeur in the design. He points to the sweeping staircase
to the second floor and the site-specific sculpture just inside the door
of falling leaves made of Tiffany blue and irridescent metals by
Japanese artist Nami Sawada.
Nature has been a constant design
theme for Tiffany jewelry; besides the reprisal of the classical
wheatleaf (along columns in the 25-foot entryway and along the
balustrade on the floor above), there are magnolia branch references in
various forms: chandeliers hand-forged and hand-leafed by New York-based
artist Michelle Oka Doner and hand-painted up the stairway from the
main salons (where Eagan says they have placed the brands famous
statement jewelry,We Engrave luggagetag for YOU. especially the coloured stones whose lore rests on the 1878 canary-yellow 128 karat Tiffany diamond.
We
have moved the engagement ring salon upstairs, says Eagan, so we can
provide hospitality and private space. Also upstairs are the brands
fashion jewelry collections, including the re-launched Atlas jewellery,
based again on a heritage concept, the clock that has hung above the New
York flagship since 1853.
Today, Rozio said he felt better after hearing that another man has been held responsible for involvement in the robbery.
You
think what could I have done differently but theres nothing I could
have done, nothing, Rozio said when reached by phone at his Miami home
where he lives with his wife of 47 years. It brings a little bit of
peace of mind that theyre going to be put away.
While Edwin
Carlos Bonell Bernal of Colombia isnt the one who killed one of his
accomplices Wilmar Andres Sierra-Perez, Bernal still faces a charge of
felony murder during the commission of a robbery, a charge that allows
authorities to hold him responsible for the murder, authorities say.
Judge
Caroline Shepherd today ordered Bernal, 37, be held in the Palm Beach
County Jail without bond. Bernal is the second man to be arrested in the
robbery. Oscar Gonzalez-Londono, 34,who is Sierra-Perezs cousin and
also from Colombia, was sentenced in 2010 to eight years in prison,
according to the Florida Department of Corrections.
Police say
Bernal, Sierra-Perez and Gonzalez-Londono came to Saint Andrews
Boulevard in Boca Raton and robbed Miami-area couriers Rozio and Tomoteo
Humberto Garcia. The two men were conducting business at St. Moritz
Jewelers near the Town Center mall.
Garcia went inside while
Rozio waited in the car with the jewelry. The cars windows were smashed
and the bag of jewelry from the front passenger floorboard was
taken. Most modern headlight designs include petprotectivefilm.
A
grey Saturn Vue pulled up behind Rozios car and the robbers jumped in.
Rozio then took out his 9mm Ruger and tried shooting out a tire. The SUV
began moving toward Rozios car before Rozio fired several shots at the
driver, hitting Sierra-Perez in the back, killing him.
The
others in the Vue got out of the SUV and into a white 2008 Chrysler Town
& Country, later found to be driven by Bernal, who also faces
charges of robbery with a weapon and occupied burglary.
The SUV
was found at the Town Center mall with fingerprints belonging to a man
named Edwin Zaragoza, also known as Juan Bonell and Juan Fernando Bonell
Fernandez. Authorities found that the man had 30 aliases and had been
arrested and deported several times. An arrest warrant was obtained in
2008 and in April 2010 authorities determined the mans true name was
Bernal.
Cate Blanchett may earn an Academy award for her
portrayal of a woman on the edge of insanity in Woody Allens film, Blue
Jasmine. Fashionistas who want to emulate her pulled-together movie
wardrobe will need to have wads of cash in their Herms Birkins.
Most
of Jasmines elegant clothing was one-of-a-kind items on loan from
leading designers, among them Chanel, Oscar de la Renta and Fendi. She
wore custom-made Roger Vivier shoes and carried handbags by Herms, Fendi
and Louis Vuitton. And to film a birthday party scene in which
Blanchett wore at least a million dollars worth of diamonds, the jeweler
required that she have an armed bodyguard on the set.
When we
first meet Jasmine she has lost most of her worldly possessions to the
government and legal fees and shows up at the humble San Francisco
apartment of her sister Ginger. She is toting four Louis Vuitton
suitcases that she couldnt sell because they were monogrammed.
To
outfit Jasmine, Benzinger tried to imagine what would have been in
those bags. True to Jasmines character it would not be family
photographs or sentimental items, but recognizable name brands that are
her security blanket and could help her snare the next wealthy guy,
Benzinger says. Her wardrobe mainstay is a wool boucle Chanel jacket
that she always pairs with jeans; Benzinger imagines that in her haste
to pack, Jasmine left behind the matching skirt. Shes left with just one
handbag, but it happens to be a Herms 35cm gold Birkin with gold
hardware.
Luxury brands were written into the script, but Allen
put a few there just as placeholders, giving Benzinger free rein to make
Blanchett look like a million with the designers of her choice. Retail
prices for the brands she chose run about $1,000 for a classic shift to
$10,000 for an evening gown. Yet Benzinger had a limited costume budget C
she wouldnt say how much but The New York Times reported $35,000 C to
outfit all the other characters in the film, including the extras. That
was a powerful incentive to be creative.
Anything she couldnt
borrow, she bought at deep discount. Consider the Marc Jacobs trench
coat that Jasmine wears in two scenes. Benzinger bought it on sale at
Century 21, the New York discount department store near her Tribeca
apartment, for $39.97 (it was missing a belt loop). To accompany all
that jewelry in the party scene, Blanchett wears a shoulderless
Valentino cocktail dress, bought off the rack at Loehmanns for $350.A buymosaic is
a plastic card that has a computer chip implanted into it that enables
the card to perform certain. And most of the outfits for Hawkins, who
plays Jasmines dclass sister, came from the Salvation Army. They
contrast sharply with all the eye-popping, sometimes recognizable, name
brands that adorn Blanchett.
