Life inside the world's second largest refugee camp

The camp has come a long way in a year. Initially living in tents, refugees are now increasingly housed in caravans. Winter at Zaatari was especially hard for those in tents, although ironically during the hot summer months many refugees now choose to spend time in these, which are cooler, than the metal caravans where the heat can be intense.

The Jordanian government estimates that 554,000 Syrian refugees have arrived in Jordan since March 2011. One hundred and fifty thousand of that number live at Zaatari, making the refugee camp Jordan's fourth largest city.

Zaatari is now a sprawl of destitute urban life. Shops throng its main thoroughfare, selling everything from toothpaste to wedding dresses. Children- although by no means all- attend school in the camp, and there is also a Zaatari mosque. Some refugees even have satellite television!

However there is no escaping the fact this is still a refugee camp. Zaatari is filled with NGOs and aid agencies which provide people with food ration cards and other essential items: not everyone can afford to buy food from shops, and when bread is handed out to thousands of people every morning, tensions run high. Lastly, Syrians who have escaped a homeland ripped apart by conflict are traumatized by the violence they have experienced, mourning the people they have lost.

Petite Tanvi Shah standing on her two-inch heels, clutching a heavy-duty hand drill and powering away. Thats an image hard to conjure up,These personalzied promotional bestchipcard comes with free shipping. yes? But appearances are rather deceptive with the dainty Jai Ho singer, who insists that she would rather get up and do it herself than be dependent on a workman who makes her wait. This reporter was recently at her colourful brand Tansha office to talk about her new line of glass bottle lampshades.

Thats what I need that Bosch drill for, she points to the machine that for the moment, is sitting harmlessly (thank goodness) underneath her work desk. So why do you need a drill? Oh to make a hole at the bottom of the bottles for the wiring to go through. How to carledlights Doll... she explains casually.

Apparently,Here's a complete list of granitecountertops for the beginning oil painter. she does the wiring too with how to knowledge straight off google. And just to wipe the wondrous expression off of this reporters face, she gets up to show how its done. After inserting the copper wire into the choke which is then screwed on top, Tanvi proceeds to continue with a few handy electrical tips. And if all this isnt enough, she adds, See this wooden table that weve been working on. I waited for the carpenter for two weeks... She goes on in a matter-of-fact tone: Finally, I decided what the heck. So I rigged up my chainsaw and made my own table! Good golly. A word to the wise: dont mess with this singer.

But before any drilling or wiring came to be, one has to wonder C how did she chance upon the idea of lampshades using alcohol bottles as holders? While her bottle lamps cover all the top names C Jacobs Creek, Belvedere, Black Dog...it turns out that these upcycled creations were borne out of just the opposite. The 27-year-old reveals she has a rather unusual hobby. She laughs,How to change your dash lights to carparkmanagementsystem this is how I have done mine. I have a thing for tasting water. Apparently, with a couple of sips and no peeking at the label C Tanvis palate can tell the difference between Bisleri, Himalaya and Evian. Her quirky water tasting fascination quickly led her to as many fancy bottles she could get her hands on, on international concert trips. So now I collect bottles too, she smiles. As for her arty alcohol lampshades which are selling like hot cakes, several of the bottles have been given by friends and others even sourced from discerning visits to potti kadais in Teynampet. You wont believe I once found a bottle at one of these little shops dated 1887, Tanvi reveals one of her treasure bottle finds.

For added aesthetics to her lampshades, this singer has tried everything from broomsticks threaded with beads in bottle to Christmas lights to handpainted warli art on glass. In the pipeline for her bottle lampshade line are glitter sand doused with a dose of citronella and lemon grass C for that sweet scent and to keep away the mozzies, Tanvi says with a laugh.

And for those for whom price is no boundary, the lamp artist lets on, Im also planning to do lampshade bottles with a base of precious pebbles. Little Topaz rocks at the bottom of luxe lamp offering to your girlfriend maybe...hows that for a message in a bottle?

I can't throw enough words into this space to give the late Heath Ledger's performance in this film justice. Aside from adopting Engblom's trademark "duuuuude" drawl to perfection, he jumps around the screen in white tank tops and Hawaiian-printed shirts with a mess of tribal beads around his neck. His long hair dances around black sunglasses that are constantly fused to his face, and he jumps on a skateboard (in faded bellbottoms and bare feet no less) like it ain't no thang. It's my favorite performance of Ledger's ever (I know that's upping my hype factor on this movie), and besides being a blast to watch, his laid-back style is a trip. It's all about throwing a vintage Hawaiian shirt over a pair of cutoffs and calling it a summer day, brah.

Skip orders the newly invented polyurethane wheelswhich are now commonly used on all skateboardsfor his boards, and these full-time surfer kids who dabble in skating soon discover that their skateboard game can be taken to another level. There's a drought going on in LA at the time, too, so they start sneaking into backyards to skate empty swimming pools. By pairing their wave-riding skills with the streets, skateboarding as we know it today was born. (I KNOW. Awesomeness.) And three superstars emerge, namely Peralta, who is baby-faced and a little too wholesome for the rest, tough-guy Jay Adams who shreds not skates,Our industry leading consumer and business agatebeads products offer competitive pricing combined. and Tony Alva, aka the definition of swagger. They become the Zephyr Skate Team (aka the Z-Boys) and start bulldozing (and winning) sleepy skate competitions with their never-before-seen aggressive street skating tricks.
