Over a stretch of plays in the third quarter, Goff went 15 of 19 for over 200 yards and a pair of scores.His overall stat line 38 for 63 for 445 yards, 2 touchdowns and three interceptions is nothing short of incredible, as he posted the second most passing yards in school history.

Granted that 63 passes is a thoroughly high number and probably isnt a sustainable strategy for success, Goff still proved that he can put a team on his back and handle that kind of load. Moving forward, hes going to need some help from his running game in order to keep defenses honest.

But this Cal offense is incredibly young at essentially every position, and considering the level where its at already is cause for nothing less than excitement. Couples age 55 and older made up just 8 percent of last year's $53 billion wedding business. But that number has doubled since 2002, according to Shane McMurray, CEO of The Wedding Report, which tracks spending trends in the wedding industry.

As a result, older couples dish out about 10 percent to 15 percent more than the cost of the average wedding, which was $25,656 last year, down from the pre-recession peak in 2007 of $28,732, according to The Wedding Report.

That's meant big business for companies that cater to brides and grooms-to-be. Zaven Ghanimian, CEO of Simon G. Jewelry, which sells engagement rings and other jewelry to about 900 small stores across the country, says men in their late 50s and older have been investing more on engagement rings. A few years ago, they were spending $1,500 to $2,000; now, they're shelling out $4,000 to $8,000.

And at David's Bridal, the nation's largest bridal chain with 300 locations across the U.S., business from older couples has doubled in the past two years, compared with modest growth for the younger age group, says Brian Beitler, the chain's chief marketing officer. And while older customers represent only two to three percent of overall sales, the company expects that figure to keep growing.

And they're a lucrative bunch. David's Bridal, which is based in Consohocken, Pa., says older brides spend about $700 to $800 on gowns, including accessories like necklaces. That's higher than the $500 to $600 that customers in their twenties and early thirties typically spend.

But older brides aren't just spending more, they're spending differently. For instance, in the past, older brides tended to stick with special-occasion dresses, but now they want more traditional wedding gowns."She's our dream bride," says Catalina Maddox, fashion director at David's Bridal. "She wants everything that the 25-year-old bride wants, but more."

The trend is so prevalent that David's Bridal is looking at ways to better connect with the older wedding crowd. In fact, its store in Danbury, Conn. recently held a bridal fashion show at a nearby nursing and rehabilitation facility; the event was a hit with the residents, the store says.

Hall says Kleinfeld's older clients are spending $4,000 to $7,000 for a gown. That compares with the average purchase of $3,500 for the under-30 set.

"They used to be subtle," Hall says. "Now, they're saying, 'Who cares? It's my day.' They want the dress."That's especially true for older first-time brides.

At 64, Yolanda Royal, who lives in Irvington, N.J., is preparing for her first wedding next July. After living with her partner for 20 years, he popped the question in May. The couple plans to spend about $11,000 on the reception for about 100 people, but for Royal, it's all about the dress. After that's secured, the other details will fall in place, she says.

Royal, a nursing attendant, was at David's Bridal in the Manhattan borough of New York City with her 41-year-old niece on a recent Friday, trying on white wedding gowns that had small trains. Royal, who says she wants something "sexy," tried everything from off-the-shoulder to strapless designs.

"For my wedding, for my day, I want the dress I want," says Royal, who did not want to give details about the gown she settled on because she wants to surprise her future husband. "I really don't think about age. I think age is something that people shouldn't think about. It's all about your life and the way you feel. I feel good about myself and my life."

That's not to say that some brides planning big weddings aren't getting any pushback from their friends or relatives. For instance, Joan Hunter, a 76-year-old widow for 33 years, is planning a big wedding with her fiance Guido Campanile, an 87-year-old widower, for October.

Everybody knows who DREAMers are, and how much they have contributed to move the immigration debate forward with their courageous actions. Yet there is another group of young people who also grew up undocumented in the U.S. that almost no one in this country has heard about.They call themselves Los Otros Dreamers, and they are a growing network of youth who were deported or decided to return to Mexico mostly after encountering obstacles in the U.S. to pursue their education. Ironically, many might have been eligible for deferred action.

We also spoke to Tom Bowman who was the Chief of Staff for the VA from 2005 to 2008. That means he was the person making sure everything got done while the hardworking Secretary was going to all those meeting and soirees.

Both gentlemen assured us that anyone coming off a battlefield gets taken care of with no questions ask. Hogenson spoke confidently of the medical service provided wounded Vets. Though you may have read some stories about particular problems, Bowman insisted the health care the VA provides is exceptional. When asked what Fox was referring to, Hogenson suggested that a report made by the American Action Forum (AAF) may have been the source of the claims of paperwork nightmares for veterans.

We then spoke to Sam Batkins who wrote the piece, which can be viewed at the AAF website. Batkins told us they pulled the data in the report from GAO information. The report cites there are 18 agencies within the VA, and they have 613 different forms for veterans to fill out which take 43.4 million paperwork hours at a cost of $614 million a year. Batkins said AAF had done similar reports for other departments with the purpose of highlighting the paperwork maze created by the federal government. Hogenson said there may be 613 forms for the various facets of the VA, but that has little to do with the medical benefits. Bowman stated they had tried to cut down the amount of forms and the paperwork maze, but stated he was not satisfied with the progress.

Bowman spoke of the fact the VA had tried to implement a new disability claims computer system (Veterans Benefits Management System) which still has not gotten to the point where Bowman believes it is properly serving the Vets. He spoke of ongoing challenges of implementation and utilization in different VA benefit offices throughout the country. Interesting the federal government constantly is coming down on the big banks. The real issue that all are focused on (including the AAF) is the backlog of disability claims at the VA. The current backlog is 773,000 unprocessed claims of which 523,000 are over 125 days old. The over 125 day amount is down due to overtime granted to VA employees to administer the claims. President Obama announced in a recent speech that the VA, American Bar Association and Legal Services Corp. agreed on a program that would help unrepresented Vets with their unresolved claims.

Bowman explained the complexity of the problem, which will not be resolved by throwing attorneys at it. Many of the claims assert multiple disabilities. The problem is that the VA has to determine which of those claims are from the Vets time in uniform and which may have happened outside of service years. That means each claim has to have a proper review by trained medical personnel. Bowman stated he believes Wherever the VA can rule in favor of the Veteran it does, though some believe that not to be true. Compensation policy for rape

The compensation policy framed by the state in December last year for rape and acid-attack victims is stuck in red tape even after being approved by the finance department recently.In a recent meeting, state chief secretary JK Banthia has sought to set up a rehabilitation board at the district level and issued directions to do away with the section of the policy which seeks approval from the superintendent of police before compensation is paid to a rape victim.

We do not know why so many questions are being asked even after it has been approved by the finance department. The chief secretary has sought more meetings to clarify certain parts of the policy; we are waiting for its final approval, said an official from the women and child welfare department.

Apart from paying compensation to the victims, the policy also entails counseling, medical and legal help and education for earning a living. The compensation for victims ranges from Rs50,000 to Rs2 lakh in normal cases and up to Rs3 lakh in severe and dangerous attacks.

The problem you have to worry about tape is device obsolescence, not bit rot. That you have to make sure, if you've got an LT0-2 tape, you've got a drive that can read it. That's only because you can separate the tape and the media, or the media and the drive, whereas in disk drives they're married, and so it's never a problem. So you just have to make sure you handle that. I've written about this and spoken about this quite a bit, that device obsolescence is a boogie man. That it's not as big of a problem as people make it out to be.

I make that point by going to eBay and searching on every tape drive that I've used for the last 20 years, and they're all sold en masse. There are hundreds and hundreds of every tape drive, including the QIC 80, which holds 80 megabytes of data. Seattle couple charged with kidnapping

A Seattle-area couple is in custody for allegedly holding captive and torturing the man's 13-year-old brother for three months -- including driving a nail through the boy's hand and keeping him in a cellar for days without food, the prosecutor said Wednesday.

Brandon Gunn, 27, and his wife Viviana, 34, are in the Kitsap County Jail outside Seattle on $500,000 bail each, charged with kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and four counts of assault, county prosecutor Cami Lewis said.Brandon's brother is from Atlanta and went in May to stay with his brother for the summer, Kitsap County Deputy Sheriff Scott Wilson said.

Judge Caroline Shepherd today ordered Bernal, 37, be held in the Palm Beach County Jail without bond. Bernal is the second man to be arrested in the robbery. Oscar Gonzalez-Londono, 34,who is Sierra-Perezs cousin and also from Colombia, was sentenced in 2010 to eight years in prison, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

Police say Bernal, Sierra-Perez and Gonzalez-Londono came to Saint Andrews Boulevard in Boca Raton and robbed Miami-area couriers Rozio and Tomoteo Humberto Garcia. The two men were conducting business at St. Moritz Jewelers near the Town Center mall.

The idea of taking a child to prison for a week may bring to mind visions of “Scared Straight” programs. But the Father to Child Summer Camp Behind Bars does just that — and the goal is to let kids bond with their fathers, who might be incarcerated far from their families.The unique summer camp lodges children at a campground near prisons in Maryland and North Carolina, according to Here & Now, the show from WBUR and NPR. The kids visit their fathers in prison each day.

And the camp has a fan in a boy named Kobe, who tells Here & Now co-host Robin Young that his father invited him to attend during a phone call from prison.“I was actually a little nervous,” Kobe tells Robin. “Not really much about the prison. I was really more nervous about seeing him, than the prison itself. Because I hadn’t seen him in a few years.”

As the Hope House website explains, the children don’t spend the night in prison — they stay at a nearby campground, complete with s’mores. But they’re with their fathers for several hours each day, doing crafts and other activities.The program also has requirements for which prisoners can take part, based on their behavior and the offenses for which they’re being punished. Each camp session includes about 15 children.

Asked about his experience, Kobe says he’s happy he went.“It was great. We hit it off from the start,” he tells Robin. “We talked about family and our interests, and things like that. It changed my whole perspective about prison. And over that week, I changed my perspective of him — which was never bad in the first place; I didn’t hate him or resent him or anything.”

Kobe says that he and his dad used the time together to rebuild their relationship. And he realized they have similar personalities and senses of humor.“It was a great experience,” he says. “We had like, no prior connection before the camp. This camp brought us together.”

Conservation Groups File

A coalition of local conservation groups could soon be part of North Carolina’s lawsuit against Duke / Progress Energy. In an action filed earlier this month, the state says the utility giant illegally contaminated groundwater at its Sutton coal-fired plant, just outside of Wilmington. The Southern Environmental Law Center filed the request to intervene yesterday – in order for Cape Fear River Watch, the Sierra Club, and the Waterkeeper Alliance to have a seat at the table.

Duke Energy is now facing legal action concerning every one of its 14 coal-fired plants in North Carolina – including the Sutton Plant near Wilmington. The Southern Environmental Law Center has successfully intervened in two other suits concerning coal ash pollution near Asheville and Charlotte-area facilities.

The Osun river goddess is credited with the founding and establishment of Osogbo town. The festival, which has been celebrated for about six centuries, was built around the relationship between the river goddess Osun and the first Monarch of Osogbo kingdom.
Despite the gradual fading away of many celebrated African cultural traditions the Osun Osogbo festival can be traced back to 1370.

The earliest settlement seems to have been in the Osogbo Grove and included palaces and a market. When the population expanded the community moved outside the Grove and created a new town, which reflected spatially the arrangements within the Grove.

In the last century though, political and religious changes had a detrimental effect on the Grove. It was being neglected and traditional priests began to disappear. All this was exacerbated by a rise in the looting of statues and movable sculptures. Hunting and fishing began to be recorded, a previously forbidden act in the sacred Grove.

The celebration of Odun Oranmiyan festival kicks off tomorrow in Ile-Ife, regarded as the cradle of the Yoruba race. Oranmiyan was one of the seven sons of Okanbi, the only child of Oduduwa and reigned as the sixth Ooni of Ife. He was famed as a strong leader who led his people into a path of greatness that lasted several centuries, leaving a heritage that lasts till today. Among many feats, he is credited with establishing the Benin and Oyo kingdoms.

His cenotaph popularly known as Opa Oranmiyan (Oranmiyan staff) is in Ife, and attracts its own share of tourists.These tourists include Yorubas in the diaspora. They come from places like Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago and Cuba. For them, the festival is an opportunity to connect with their roots.
Organisers of the Oranmiyan festival are pushing to it is enlisted in the calendar of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation and the World Tourism Calendar, and thus use it as a platform to drive investment to the ancient town.
